Why convert to WebP
WebP is a modern image format that supports both lossy and lossless compression plus transparency. Switching your website images from JPG and PNG to WebP is one of the simplest ways to cut page weight, speed up loading and improve Core Web Vitals scores. Every current browser can display WebP, and most content management systems accept it.
When to convert WebP back
- Older software such as some desktop editors, print services and office tools still prefer JPG or PNG.
- Marketplaces and forms sometimes accept only JPG or PNG uploads.
- Editing: PNG keeps every pixel, so it is a safe working copy.
Private batch conversion
Unlike most online converters, this one never uploads your images. Your browser does the decoding and encoding, so conversion starts instantly, there is no file count limit and your pictures stay private. Change the format or quality at any time and the whole batch is converted again automatically.
Frequently asked questions
How much smaller is WebP than JPG or PNG?
At the same visual quality, WebP files are typically 25 to 35 percent smaller than JPG and often 50 to 80 percent smaller than PNG photos. The table shows the exact saving for each of your files.
Can I convert WebP back to JPG or PNG?
Yes. Choose JPG or PNG in the "Convert to" menu. PNG keeps transparency and every pixel; JPG gives smaller files but fills transparent areas with white.
Do all browsers support WebP images?
All current browsers, including Safari since version 14, can display WebP. Saving WebP files needs Chrome, Edge, Firefox or another modern browser; Safari cannot encode WebP yet.
Are my files uploaded?
No. The conversion runs in your browser, so your images stay on your device. There are no size or daily limits.
What happens to animated GIFs?
The browser converts the first frame of an animated GIF into a still image. Static GIFs convert normally.
