Check your IP address or the IP of any website

An IP address is the number that identifies a device or server on the internet. This page shows the public IPv4 and IPv6 addresses your connection uses right now, together with the network (ISP and ASN) they belong to and an approximate location. Switch to the lookup tab to find the IP addresses behind any website, or the owner network of any IP address.

Your public IP versus your local IP

Your router gives each device at home a private address such as 192.168.1.20, and shares one public address with the internet. Websites only ever see the public one, which is what this checker shows. Mobile networks and some broadband providers share one public address between many customers (carrier-grade NAT), so the location can be a nearby city rather than yours.

Looking up a website's IP

  • A and AAAA records: the tool resolves each domain over DNS over HTTPS and lists every IPv4 and IPv6 address.
  • Hosting network: for each address it shows the ASN and organisation, for example Cloudflare, Amazon or Google, so you can tell where a site is hosted or which CDN it sits behind.
  • Bulk and export: check up to 20 domains at once and download the table as CSV.

Common uses

Developers use an IP checker to whitelist an office address in a firewall or database, to confirm that DNS changes point to a new server, and to see whether a site is behind a CDN. Everyday users check whether a VPN really hides their address, or which provider they are connected through. The location is an estimate from public databases and is never precise enough to find a home address.

Frequently asked questions

Why do I have both an IPv4 and an IPv6 address?

Most networks now run both protocols side by side. Websites that support IPv6 are reached over it first; older sites still use IPv4. If no IPv6 address shows, your provider or router has not enabled it.

How accurate is the location?

IP location comes from databases that map address blocks to regions. The country is usually right, the city is often the location of your provider's equipment, and it never shows your street address.

Why does a website have several IP addresses?

Large sites spread traffic across many servers and use CDNs that answer from the data centre nearest to you, so DNS can return several addresses, and different ones in different places.

Can I hide my IP address?

A VPN, a privacy relay or the Tor browser routes your traffic through another server so sites see that server's IP instead of yours. Run this checker again with the VPN on to confirm it works.

Is my IP stored by this tool?

No. Your browser asks the public ipify service for your address and an IP database for its details. Corenexis does not log or store the result.
